Adelaide’s latest crop of draftees have landed in Adelaide to begin their lives as AFL players – making one important stop before travelling to West Lakes.
Chayce Jones, Ned McHenry, Will Hamill and Lachlan Sholl were all presented to the matriarch of the local Italian community – Nonna Gallucci.
While it is denied by all parties, rumours have circulated that the presentation was actually more akin to a Mafia initiation ceremony, with all players having to swear a blood oath to Nonna over a dinner that consisted of lasagne and meatballs.
“They good boys” said Nonna after the ceremony had concluded. “They one of us now.”
Crows draftee Chayce Jones was happy to have passed the test.
“To go into that room and be initiated into the family by Nonna herself.. nothing scares me now. I can’t wait to get stuck in to training.”
