Adelaide are considering using their first draft pick on emerging Victorian key forward Simon ‘Specky’ Magee.
Magee, a Booyong High School product, has consistently impressed since he was 12 years of age, representing Victoria at the National Footy Carnival and playing for the prestigious Gosmore Grammar.
Adelaide have three picks in the top 20 of this years draft, and are in the market for a key forward with the rumoured departure of the high flying Mitch McGovern.
Magee first caught the eye of Crows recruiting manager Hamish Ogilve through his performance in The Great Footy Contest, a competition for young football stars to demonstrate amazing skills in order to win a trip to either the US or Ireland as a youth AFL ambassador.
Magee has played fellow draft hopefuls Danny ‘Italian Stallion’ Castellino, and ruckman Josh ‘Robbo’ Roberts, giving recruiters confidence that the Booyong High football program is capable of developing top end talent.
However, the Journal understands that at least one member of the Adelaide recruiting team prefers fellow Booyong High export Derek ‘Screamer’ Johnson, and is pushing his case in draft meetings.
More to come.
