Adelaide Football Club Head of Football Brett Burton has today applauded the clubs womens team for perfecting the AFC culture and game style in only their second season of competition
Speaking after the reining premiers had squandered a chance to go back to back by losing a game against Collingwood that was expected to be a formality, Burton said he was impressed by how far the team had come in such a short time.
“While it was obviously really great to win the flag last year, the Adelaide Football Club ethos is more geared to stumbling over seemingly easy hurdles. The men’s team are great at it, so are the E-Sports boys.”
“Our modelling shows that fans are actually much more engaged with the club when there is an opportunity to blame a loss on Victorian bias than when we actually win, so obviously we try to maximise those opportunities.”
After reports emerged earlier this month that the Adelaide Crows were in discussions to purchase the Adelaide 36ers, Burton indicated the deal was not yet over the line.
“We’ll have to see with that. Obviously they are one game away from winning the Championship, so we’d like to see them choke before we can be sure that they will be the right fit.”
